What causes a candle to flicker?
And how can I stop it? If it helps, I always like my candles in a jar that's taller than the candle itself. I always trim the wick to about 5mm, but it doesn't help.
flame uses up oxygen. when a candle burns, it uses up the oxygen in the small volume around it, then, as the oxygen level drops, the candle flame becomes smaller. once it gets small enough, it starts using up oxygen at a SLOWER rate than the oxygen refills the area, and the flame begins to get larger again. this entire process happens many times per second.
