What's the best way to get melted candles out of votive cups?

The candles completely melted and are now formed to the inside of the cups. I thought about microwaving them but I have visions of a big mess in my microwave. I'm also concerned about the little metal things around the wicks of the candles. Any ideas or are they junk now?

i put mine in the freezer for a few minutes then the wax pops right.
