Who else was hit by the "Ice Storm" last winter?
{anyone else from AR?}
This was written by candle light, peaceful huh?
And........The Neighbors Disappeared
{from the ice storm this past winter 2007}
It was a bright and sunny day
till the clouds rolled in,
the neighbors gathered pets,
covered porches,
and shut garages.
Weather reports took over
regular programming
as if the President were to speak.
Everyone gathered candles
and charged batteries.
Some neighbors put on show chains.
(We loaded wood in the pickup)
The sky broke loose with rain
after a seventy degree morning.
Temps plummeted forty degrees,
it would rain ice for the rest
of the night.
Cell phone towers went down as
the lights flickered off and on.
Some neighbors salted stairs and walks.
We just stayed in playing games as
we watched the lights go off
and the neighbors disappeared............
You've got some good winter Haiku in there.
Neighbors gathered pets= 5 syllables
Weather reports took over=7 syllables with a cutting verb that can be shared with Regular programs= 5 syllables,
Many of your other verses and images are similar capsules, which give a picture of the whole. Some suggest American Haiku should be 11 syllables rather than the Japanese 14, and there are different classical divisions to both. Storms and their enforced simplicity are good time to write poetry.
