A few questions on Aromatherapy?
1. What is the difference between a aroma burner and a diffuser?
2. When burning essential oils in an aroma burner, do you add a few drops of oil into water or just burn it in a ceramic pot?
3. Is peppermint oil good for massages?

1. A diffusor uses air flow to disperse essential oils into the air. An aroma burner (which sounds like a name for a product rather than a name for a method) uses heat to disperse essential oils into the air. Heating essential oils is different than burning them, never burn eo's, it's just a waste. The eo's don't get dispersed, just the combusted material.
2. Again, never burn eo's. Some eo's are very thick and will clog a diffusor, ie Myrrh and Benzoin. Heat is needed to to use these thick eo's in an airborne appliation. Usually a candle, sometimes a low watt bulb, under a glazed ceramic dish. Water and eo's are put in the tray, water evaporates, heat makes the oils more mobile and they are carried into the air with the water.
3. Peppermint can be used in a massage blend. Is it good? That depends on what you are trying to achieve. In a massage it aids in lymph drainage and detox as well as relieving itching and inflammation. Peppermint is a rubifacient and increaces the transdermal absorption of other oils in the blend.
4. Pictures of aromatherapy massage techniques may be hard to come by. I think of that as blending essential oils in the massage oil rather than a manual technique. You can use eo's in a massage in a 3% dilution. The math is easy for this percentage and it is pretty safe and effective. Please educate yourself on the indications and contraindications of any eo before you apply it.
