Why did you choose your religion?
I have to write a paper where I interview someone that practices a religion. Any religion. I would love to get feedback from everyone. Here are the questions to answer.
Why did you choose that religion?
What do you like about it?
Dislike?
If someone wanted to join your religion, what would they have to do? Can anyone be kicked out? Give reasons why.
I'm a studying Jehovah's Witnesses.
1. Why did you choose that religion?
I was always interested in learning about the religion because growing up I saw Witnesses hard at work doing the ministry work in my neighborhoods and I wanted to learn why. My husband grew up in the religion although he was disfellowshipped (learn about that in question 5) so when he wanted to go back, I went with him to learn. I have a weekly bible study at my home with one of the sisters from the Kingdom Hall we attend. We read from the "What Does the Bible Really Teach" book and get our scriptures from the New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures.
2. What do you like about it?
There's so much to say! The thing I like most is the friends at the meetings. Everyone is so warm hearted and will do anything for you. We have two services - Sunday is the Public Talk and Watchtower, Thursday is the Congregation Bible Study, Theocratic Ministry School and Service Meeting. All meetings are open to the public and any visitors are always welcomed with open arms. About the religion specifically, I like being able to learn and create my own special relationship with Jehovah God. We have a lot of literature made available to us so if we have any questions or one of our visitors has questions, we are able to asnwer questions and we can also support all answers with scriptures from God's word.
3. Dislike?
The only thing I dislike is that I didn't start learning sooner.
4. How would someone join the Jehovah's Witnesses?
If someone was interested in learning about Jehovah's organization, that individual would want to set up a personal study. This is when a friend from the congregation would visit the individual's home for an hour a week and read from the "What Does the Bible Really Teach" book. This book is very nice because it is organized nicely so you can build the blocks of your relationship and knowledge and also, at the bottom of the pages there is a question that goes to each paragraph so that you can get the main point of the paragraph. Along with the study, the individual can go to the meetings on Thursdays and Sundays. When the individual feels ready, they are able to be baptized at the District Assembly.
5. Can someone be "kicked out" of Jehovah's Witnesses?
Individuals can be disfellowshipped. This means that no one at the Kingdom Hall will be able to talk to them because they have become a traitor. Also, any active Jehovah's Witnesses including family and close friends won't be allowed to converse with the disfellowshipped individual. There are many many reasons an individual can be disfellowshipped including adultry, associating with disfellowshipped people, accepting blood, drug use or drunkeness, false worship, fornication, fraud or gambling, lying, military service or political involvement, uncleanness, violence, or wordly celebrations (the whole list is located here: http://www.jwfacts.com/index_files/disfellowship.htm#reasons). Disfellowshipped indivuduals however can be reinstated by having regular meeting attendance (although not speeking to any of the friends or contributing to converstations) and proving their love for Jehovah. The individual (after six months usually) can turn a letter into the elders of the congregation stating that they would like to evaluated for reinstatment.
Nothing is worse than going to cut with your cutlery, and having the handle slip around in your hand. To combat this potential for injury, Victorinox has created this Fibrox santoku knife. The Fibrox® handle is textured and provides a firm grip, even when wet, and does not slip or slide around...
