Do I need to put dowels in a cake that is tiered with pillars?
I'm assembling my first wedding cake with pillars: 16 12 8 square.
I'm wondering if I need to put dowels in my cakes still? Or do the pillars provide enough support?
Any advice would be appreciated!

I'd put the dowels in the inside of the pillars just to make sure. Its better to put them in and not need them than not put them in and the cake collapses.
Also it depends if its fruit cake or sponge cake. If its fruit cake I'd put them in just to be sure.
