How do I determine if a teapot I purchased is real silver and not silver plated?
The teapot has no markings of any kind on it. It has several dents in it and I am cleaning it and it is impossible for me to tell if it is real silver. I tried cleaning the inside and so far it seems to be shining like real silver.
Put a magnet close to it--a magnet does not stick to real silver but will to plate, which usually means there is brass or copper under the plate. I may have said this wrong, and now it won't let me delete it. I used to buy lots of plated things and checked them with a magnet--then I stripped them down to the brass or copper underneath. Do the magnet on a piece you are sure is silver and then do the new piece you have.
