What are some myths about Northern Lights?
Would you like to go and see the Northern Lights if you could?
ROMANS believe "Aurora" was the goddess of the dawn. Many cultural groups thought of them as harbingers of war or famine.
Many of our Northern European ancestors saw them as the Valkyries riding back to Valhalla.
The arrival of the Valkyries in Helgakviða Hundingsbana -
Then glittered light
from Logafjoll,
And from the light
the flashes leaped;

on heaven's field;
Their byrnies all
with blood were red,
And from their spears
the sparks flew forth.

Edit: For all those who have posted saying they would love to see the lights, I live in the U.K and have seen the lights as a child from my own back garden in Essex (It was christmas eve too!)
