Southern gardeners: a question about myrtle trees? Can the blossoms be picked the way I used to pick lilacs?
I think the myrtles in bloom right now are stunningly lovely and would be gorgeous indoor floral decoration. I do not wish to harm the trees. Can I cut the blossoms? Do they last or will they die immediately?
They are beautiful! The blossoms last for anywhere from 3 days to a week. Cut stems longish, remove lower leaves and smash lowest 3-4 inches of woody stems with a hammer to help them absorb more water. Change water frequently and enjoy!
Crape myrtles bloom on old wood, so be careful not to cut any new stems--those are next year's flowers!
This Lilac Blossom set of salt and pepper shakers is sure to brighten up your kitchen table, shelves or countertop. Cooks and collectors will delight in owning this fun loving set. A welcome gift to give or receive, helping to make special memories.
