Candle jar- as it burns down do you remove the wax on the side?
I have a candle jar and it has burned down halfway, but it tunneled down. Its a dark wax too so when lit no light comes from it. The wax was soft on the sides after it had been lit so I cut the side wax off so that its flush with the level its burning at. Was this wrong for me to do?
You should burn a container candle for 1 hour for every inch of diameter. This should be enough for the wax to leiquid all the way across the top. the problem that you have ("steps") occurs because it has not been burned enough. Once this occurs, there is only one solution...melt the wax and pour off the wax until you reach the wick.
Turn you oven on to 200 degrees F. Take a cookie sheet and cover it with foil. Place the candle on the cookie sheet. When it has melted, pour off the excess wax in the trash (not the sink or you'll have another problem that will require a plumber) until about 1/4 inch of the wick is visible.
You can then burn the candle normally, but remember the 1 hour per 1 inch of diameter.
