How can one tell the difference between a hand made marble and a machine made marble?
I am interested in a marble I saw on eBay and want to confirm that it was hand made. Are there any marks, signs, symbols, etc. that show that it was hand made or not?
Handmade marbles, made without the use of machines, usually have cut-off marks (pontil marks) on one or both poles of the marble. A handmade glass marble is made by twisting glass off the end of a glass cane or by gathering glass on the end of a metal rod (punty).
A machine made marble is perfectly round and has no pontil marks. These marbles were made after 1900, predominately in the United States.
