How can I get to Eiffel Tower from Charles De Gaulle airport?
1) I have a day (and night) to tour Paris. How can I get to the Eiffel Tower by train? Which station do I alight at and how long is the journey going to be?
2) How far is the Eiffel Tower from Louvre and Arc De Triomphe? How can I get to these places (from one to the other) the faster way (walking, bus, or train)?
1) There's a couple of options to travel by metro/RER and I'll try to keep it as simple as possible (ie as little connections as possible). Journey time is approximately an hour.
a) RER only :
RER B from CDG to St Michel-Notre Dame, then change to
RER C (direction Versailles or Pontoise) to Champ de Mars-Tour Eiffel, and get off here
b) RER/bus combination:
RER B from CDG to Denfert-Rochereau, then change to
Metro line 6 (direction Charles de Gaulle-Etoile) to Bir-Hakeim, and get off here
2) I personally love walking in Paris, so I'm going to say, walk it if you could, even though you could take the metro which will obviously be faster. It's also sensible to go from Eiffel Tower to Arc de Triomphe, then from there to Louvre.
It is not too far to go from Eiffel Tower to Arc de Triomphe (less than 30 mins). Cross the river towards the Trocadero, and at the quay across the river, turn right and walk down Avenue de New York. At the first left junction (Ave Albert de Mun) turn left. On the second road on the right (Ave d'Iena) turn right. Walk all the way straight on this road, and you'll arrive at the Arc de Triomphe.
To get from Arc de Triomphe to Louvre, it's even simpler in terms of direction. Walk down Ave des Champs Elysees all the way, and you will come to Place de la Concorde. Just beyond that is the gate to Jardin Tuilleries and as you will come to Arc de Triomphe du Caroussel. The Louvre is just beyond that. Really, it's just one straight walk down, and with amazing views along the way. This walk is a little longer, about 40-45 mins, but so totally worth it.
The walk may even take a little longer if you're stopping along the way to take photos of the Grand Palais, the Petit Palais, Pont Alexandre III and the looming Invalides behind it, and don't forget to turn back so you can see Arc de Triomphe and the impressive buildings of La Defense behind it in the horizon. It truly is beautiful. You don't want to miss all these because you took the metro underground that takes about 10 minutes to get between Arc de Triomphe and Louvre.
In event if you want to take the metro:
a) Eiffel Tower to Arc de Triomphe - go to Bir-Hakeim metro station (if you're at the Eiffel Tower, walk towards the quay and turn left to get to the metro station) and take the metro line 6 in the direction of Charles de Gaulle-Etoile. Get off there and that is the stop for Arc de Triomphe.
Alternatively, cross the river to Trocadero and take metro line 6 from there in the direction of Charles de Gaulle-Etoile. Note that metro line 6 Trocadero station is currently closed for works until March.
b) Arc de Triomphe to Louvre - take metro line 1 from Charles de Gaulle-Etoile in the direction of Chateau de Vincennes. Get off at Palais Royal-Musee du Louvre.
@ Rilifane : I think you may have accidentally mentioned the RER line in the wrong order because I know you know Paris very well. The line to CDG from St Michel should be RER B and not RER C, whereas from Champ de Mars-Tour Eiffel to St Michel it should be RER B.
