Home birth option for all pregnant women???
I just read that NHS will try to achive this by 2009, but according to them, they will need 3000 more midwives to be able to make it happen.
Do you really think this is a great idea? I mean, if you went to a NHS hospital here to have a baby, you wouldn`t pay for that. How would they pay these 3000-odd midwives?
Can somebody please explain why this is neccessary - as the service provided (free of charge) in britain is already so good. In my home country (South Africa) we don`t have any NHS system or anything. Regardless whether you deliver naturally or by c-section - you will pay for your room, your doctor etc. My sister-in-law had her baby there a month ago and she was expected to bring her own bed linen. Some state hospitals will even request that you provide your own meals.
My point is, if there is already such a good facility here available freely, why do the NHS need to change a structure that is working so well?
I dont know,some women want to have their babies at home I expect,though god knows why,its beyond me,in most cases you can go home after 6 hours if you deliver in hospital,and your both far safer.
