Is it ok to cook in a rusty iron pot? I forgot to dry my black iron pot and it rusted.?
I scrubbed it until my hands started bleeding, but there is still a little rust on the sides and on the bottom. Its a great pot, but I don't want to poison myself.
A little rust won't hurt you. Depending on what you cook, you could get a little food discoloration until you re-season it (wipe with oil, heat to medium, let stand). Next time get a better scrubber - you don't need to damage yourself. I once found a discarded iron pot of an unusual size, and scrubbed the rust off with wet sandpaper,
